Markham is a city located in York Region which lies next to Toronto to the north. There are over 300,000 people who call Markham home and this city is within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The area is known for its gently rolling hills and is intersected by the Don and Rouge Rivers. To the north is the Oak Ridges Moraine which elevates Markham past 200m above sea level. The city of Markham is quite large as it covers an area of 212 square kilometres.Markham has a humid continental climate. Summers can be quite hot and humid with daytime average highs reaching 26°C and there can be some heavy thunderstorms as well. Winter months tend to bring the area lots of snow and very cold temperatures with the daytime high averaging -1°.
