About Halifax

Halifax is a major economic centre in eastern Canada with large public and private sectors and it is the capital city of Nova Scotia. Halifax was ranked by Money Sense in 2012 as being the fourth best place to live in Canada. The population is just under 300,000.Halifax experiences a humid continental climate and they endure severe winter storms on occasion, however the summers are pleasant and typically warm. Average summer daytime high temperatures are 21°C and the winter daytime highs average 1°C.

Halifax has numerous art galleries, theatres, museums, as well as several entertainment facilities. This region is noted for having a strong music scene, pubs, a great nightlife, and casino action especially in the central urban core. Many Halifax celebrations have become world-renowned such as the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, The Atlantic Film Festival and The Atlantic Jazz Festival. You may experience film crews while driving around the city because many American and Canadian filmmakers use the streets of Halifax. Halifax is sometimes referred to as being the cultural centre of the Maritimes. In addition, there are many National Historical Sites and buildings in Halifax to explore including Citadel Hill. There are numerous recreational areas to enjoy a variety of indoor and outdoor activities. Halifax restaurants and eateries pride themselves on locally-sourced ingredients and fresh seafood. Those who frequent eating out at one of the many fine dining establishments, feel that Halifax is the centre of Canadian Maritime cuisine. Halifax is proud of their vibrant culinary scene and just beyond city limits is a thriving wine country. Take a winery tour and sample some of the areas fine wines.
