About Sherwood Park
Sherwood Park, Alberta, is an urban service centre which is adjacent to Edmonton’s eastern boundary. The population is 65,465 (2012) and although the province of Alberta considers this a city, Sherwood Park is technically known as a large hamlet. The mean average daytime high is 17°C in the summer and -11°C throughout the winter months. Sherwood Park has a very strong economy and the west area is known as Refinery Row which includes Esso’s Strathcona Refinery and several other large industrial facilities.
Festival Place is a vibrant 500-seat Elizabethan-style theatre which is a multi-use centre for the arts. Over 100 professional performances take place there every year including theatre, dance, film and community events. The A.J. Ottewell Community Centre is another noteworthy venue in which there are often events taking place throughout the year. If you want to take in some history be sure to check out Strathcona’s County Museum and Archives. Perhaps being active is more what you desire, if so be sure to visit Millenium Place. This state-of-the-art recreation facility attracts over 3 million people every year. If taking in a sports game is what you seek and you don’t want to make the trek into Edmonton then be sure to see the Sherwood Park Crusaders play in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. In the winter there are many groomed cross country skiing trails and outdoor ice rinks to enjoy. In addition, there are many places to discover in Sherwood Park to enjoy fine dining.
