Josef Spatz, Chairperson
Josef (Jim) Spatz has been Chair of Premiere Suites since its incorporation in 2007. Jim grew up surrounded by a growing family business, but decided to pursue his own career in medicine. Jim practiced medicine for 13 years and held the appointment of Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at McGill University. In 1987, Jim returned to Halifax to join the company his father Simon founded, Southwest Properties Limited ("Southwest"), a leading owner, operator and developer of residential and commercial real estate in Atlantic Canada.
As Chairman and CEO, Jim has led Southwest in the development and acquisition of over $100 million of investment property, increasing the company's size in terms of both assets and revenue by 400%, and created more than 1,000 construction jobs and over 1,000 full-time jobs.
Jeffrey L. Brookhouser, President & Chief Operating Officer
Jeff has been the President and Chief Operating Officer of Premiere Suites since 2007. He began his career in Wichita, Kansas and over the years has worked in New York and Toronto in the travel, tourism and hospitality industries. He has an impressive track record in achieving results through a rigorous focus on business metrics. His most recent executive roles with Budget Auto Canada and Allied Domecq Quick Service Restaurants (ADQSR) showcase select key accomplishments involving franchise development, major branding initiatives and programs designed to increase market share and revenues substantially. Jeff’s is known for his high-energy style and results-oriented approach. His passion for the luxury temporary housing industry and Premiere Executive Suites brand has positively impacted the growth and expansion of the business.
Gordon Laing, Vice President & Secretary
Gordon Laing has been the Vice President of Premiere Suites since 2007. He has been the President and COO of Southwest Properties since 2006. Prior to joining Southwest, Gordon was President and CEO of Crossley Carpets (Nova Scotia), one of the country’s leading suppliers of commercial and residential broadloom carpet to the global marketplace. When it comes to leadership, Gordon believes in setting high and clear expectations, treating people with respect, providing flexibility in how they accomplish their goals and reinforcing the importance of learning new things and getting out of your comfort zone. During his tenure at Crossley Carpets he was twice named one of the "Top 50 CEO's" in the region by Atlantic Business Journal. In 2006, Gordon Laing was the recipient of the Certified Management Accountant's Fellowship Award (FCMA).
