Hy's Steakhouse Comes Home to Calgary
Hy’s Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar has come home to Calgary, where the original location opened in 1955. From its humble beginnings over a women’s clothing store on 2nd Street where the Royal Bank tower is today, owner Hy Aisenstat went on to open locations in Winnipeg, Vancouver, Lethbridge, Victoria, Saskatoon, Regina, two locations in Toronto, Chicago, Ottawa, and Beverly Hills.
More recently, the Calgary restaurant resided in the Westin Hotel, where it was closed in 2006. Hy’s sons closed the U.S. restaurants and continue to focus on the Canadian market, where they now have restaurants in Whistler, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto and Ottawa. They have finally brought Hy’s back to Calgary in a new location on the corner of 8th Avenue and 3rd Street SW.
Famous for their in-house cut steaks of prime grade beef, aged a minimum of 28 days, the New York Strip, Porterhouse, Filet Mignon and Bone-in Rib Steak are grilled to order. For a bit of culinary theatre, order the Chateaubriand for Two or Steak Diane to see your server carve and prepare your dish tableside. Gorgonzola Filet Mignon, Steak Neptune, Steak au Poivre, and Steak and Lobster complete the steak selections at Hy’s. They also offer a roast rack of lamb, beef tenderloin, duck confit, whole roasted chicken, and a seafood menu.
Expect to pay between $42.99 and $69.95 for a steak.
