Fort McMurray

CALGARY AB- Our thoughts and prayers are with the residents of Fort McMurray and all those affected by the raging wildfires that have devastated the community over the last 24 hours.

By 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, the entire city was under mandatory evacuation. Premiere Suites operates eight properties in Fort McMurray, several of which were occupied at the time. Our Alberta team activated our disaster emergency response protocol to first and foremost ensure the safety of our guests and personnel.

We are pleased to report that all of our guests have safely vacated their suites and evacuated from Fort McMurray to a variety of locations per their company protocols for dealing with these types of situations. Our staff are also safe and have evacuated from Fort McMurray.

Reception centres have been set up by the province in Lac La Biche at the Bold Centre, and in Edmonton at Northlands and are already filling up as tens of thousands of residents are moved from danger.

This continues to be a dangerous situation, and is already the largest fire evacuation in the history of the province. We are inspired by the resilience of the Albertan people who are once again being called upon to come together during a time of crisis. Our strength and resolve will allow us to pull through this and rebuild. We are touched by the outpouring of support from friends and colleagues across the country. We will continue to monitor and provide any information we can to our guests, colleagues and friends.
