The 25 Most Powerful Women in Business program by Atlantic Business Magazine honors influential businesswomen residing and operating in Atlantic Canada. These women are corporate leaders, industry influencers, connectors, mentors, and investors. They use their influence to empower others rather than seek personal gain.
The selection criteria for honorees stipulate that they must be residents of one of the four Atlantic provinces. These recipients are recognized for their substantial contributions to the regional business community. Individuals who receive these honours have made noteworthy and influential impacts within the business landscape of the Atlantic provinces.
These remarkable women are more than just individuals excelling in their professions; they are true changemakers in Atlantic Canada. Their influence extends far beyond the confines of their jobs, reaching into their industries and making a tangible difference in the broader community. According to the Canadian Women's Foundation, 82 percent of Canadian women aged 24 to 54 are employed. However, there remains a glaring disparity at the highest levels of corporate leadership, with only 15 percent of CEOs in Canada being women.
Despite their high participation in the labour force, women's representation in the C-suite does not reflect a similar correlation, often leading to their exclusion from leadership recognition programs.
