East Mediterranean Delights Inside Jamjar
Jamjar is the brainchild of two passionate Lebanese immigrants with a passion for food, hospitality and generosity. Raised in a country where an abundance of fresh produce year round results in the production and giving of jams as a sign of affection, owners Bakhos and Fadi drew inspiration from the jam jar in creating the east Mediterranean restaurant.
Fresh vegetables, olive oil, lemon juice and spices are the foundation for traditional Lebanese dishes like daily-made hummus (creamy chick pea dip), batata harra (cubed potatoes, tossed in garlic & cilantro), shish tawouk (yogurt marinated Rossdown Farms chicken breast skewers), makali (deep-fried cauliflower in pomegranate molasses), eggplant stew, and lamb kafta.
Jamjar has vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options making it a great place to go with a group, especially if you are not sure about everyone’s dietary restrictions. They also have a great take-out menu. If you can drink coffee at night and still sleep, try the Turkish Delight, a delightful cup of Bailey’s, Halva, Turkish coffee, and cardamom bitters.
Don’t forget to stock up on jars of house-made hummus, mohammara (spicy roasted red pepper and walnuts), muttabel (roasted eggplants, peppers, fresh mint, tomatoes, onions and garlic), and spinach dip before you leave. Available in 8 oz. and 16 oz. jars, prices range from $3 to $15.
