If you enjoy getting outside during the winter season to get some exercise, have fun with friends and family, and take in the crisp fresh air and snow-covered scenery, ice skating on an outdoor rink is a great way to check all of those boxes.
If you don’t have a backyard big enough to make your own and none of your neighbours are up for the challenge, there are 50 outdoor ice skating rinks run by the City of Toronto that are free to the public, many of them located in the North York area. The season starts in the last week of November or the first week of December for most, and the season extends until March, weather permitting. General hours of operation for City-run outdoor rinks are 9:00 am to 10:00 pm, seven days a week, but hours vary at each location so check the City website for facility information.
Remember to check with the city on the day you plan to skate for any notices or closures based on weather conditions or closed skates.
