Air Canada’s in-flight publication, enRoute Magazine recently released the people’s choice nominees for their Canadian Best New Restaurant 2016 award, as chosen by a panel of food and hospitality industry leaders. Nominations could be made for eateries that opened between approximately June 2015 and June 2016.
Among the 35 contenders from across the country is one notable from Kitchener. The Berlin is proving that Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal are not eh only food scenes worthy of both national and international attention.
45 King Street West, Kitchener, ON N2G 1A1, 519-208-8555
As your meal is prepared by one of Canada’s most influential chefs and his team, you can enjoy a relaxed dining experience. Warm wood tones, natural stone, and exposed brick are infused throughout our dining room and event spaces. Watch the chefs in the completely open-concept kitchen. Enjoy our specially curated wine and beverage menu, or simply savour your meal.
This Southern Ontario city was called Berlin before 1916, and chef Jonathan Gushue cooks modern European dishes like hardwood-grilled beef rump with spaetzle and tomato vinaigrette paired with Belgian-style ale from Nickel Brook. Throwback touches adorn the long dining room, including the massive flag dating back to when Canada had a mere nine provinces. (Gushue hails from the 10th, Newfoundland.) A fluffy nougatine dessert is suffused with sunflower and sesame seeds and topped with tiny white strawberries.
Have you eaten at Kitchener’s The Berlin? Think it deserves to win Canada’s Best New Restaurant 2016? You can vote for your favourite and enter for a chance to win a trip for two to the nominated restaurant of your choice plus $500 spending money.
