Mill Woods Park Perfect for Sports Year-Round
Mill Woods Sport Park is a large multi-functional outdoor space in the Mill Woods neighbourhood of Edmonton. The park is very popular during the summer because of its water playground. Open from May long weekend until September long weekend every year, the splash and play water features help city residents cool down on hot days.
The park also features picnic sites and a small lake. Swimming or boating in the lake are prohibited, but it still makes for a scenic backdrop for a family picnic. The park hosts a popular Canada Day event with musical performances, a petting zoo, hay rides and other activities.
Paved walkways, sports fields and a skate park make Mill Woods Sport Park a destination for walkers, runners, cyclists, in-line skaters, skateboarders, and various sports teams in the warmer months. Skiing and sledding are popular during winter months.
Mill Woods Recreation Centre backs onto the park, and is flanked by Holy Trinity and J Percy Page High Schools. The Sport Park serves as the school fields for both.
There are no washrooms or water fountains in the park. Visitors and passers-through need to go to the recreation centre for access to both or bring their own refreshments; however, a park pavilion is under construction that will provide more amenities in future.
