Discover Something New Every Trip to West Edmonton Mall
At 5.3 million square feet, the West Edmonton Mall is the largest shopping mall in North America, and the tenth largest in the world. With more than 800 stores and services, 100 restaurants, two hotels, and nine attractions, it is no wonder that it is the province of Alberta’s number one tourist attraction. More than 30 million visitors pass through the Mall each year.
The West Edmonton Mall opened to the public on September 15, 1981. It was founded by the Ghermezian brothers, who emigrated from Iran and drew on inspiration from the Persian bazaars of their homeland, and worked with architect Maurice Sunderland, to transform a shopping centre into a mix-use retail and entertainment complex that is a world-class attraction.
All of your shopping needs can be met in one place with this many stores under one roof. Major international retailers in the Mall include Donna Karan, Kate Spade, J. Crew, Hugo Boss, Anthropologie, and Michael Kors; major Canadian brands include Harry Rosen, The Bay, and Roots but the list goes on and on.
If you are not in the mood to shop, or you have come to West Edmonton Mall to stay and play, attractions include: World Waterpark, Ed’s Rec Room bowling billiards and arcade, Marine Life underground aquarium, Ice Palace indoor skating rink, Professor Wem’s Adventure Golf, Santa Maria replica ship, WEM Souvenirs beachwear and souvenir shop, Dragon’s Tale black-lgiht miniature gold, and three movie theatres.
