Calgary

Calgary is the largest city in Alberta with a population of almost 1,200,000. Located in southern Alberta at the confluence of the scenic Elbow and Bow Rivers Calgary is noted for being in a geographic transition area between the prairies and the foothills of the majestic Rocky Mountain range.  The climate is typically dry with a mean average daytime high of 22°C in the summer and -1°C in the winter.

There is a plethora of places to see and things to do while you are in Calgary. Depending on the time of year you can take in the world famous Calgary Stampede, visit historical sites, enjoy theatre, concerts or go for a hike in one of the beautifully-maintained parks. Perhaps riding the roller coaster at Calgary’s Calaway Park is the excitement you desire or strolling through Telus Spark The New Science Centre. Calgary boasts some of the best shopping opportunities in Canada including the historic Stephen Avenue, over 250 unique shops and boutiques in Kensington Village, or discover some exquisite antiques in Inglewood, Calgary’s original downtown. For the active sports enthusiast you can shoot down Calgary’s 1988 Olympic bobsleigh track, or skate on the Olympic Oval speed skating track. If you prefer to be a spectator then there are sports events you can enjoy including the NHL’s Calgary Flames or the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders.
